About Me

Hello,

My name is Mr. Hernandez and I am a teacher at Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge. Before that, I was a teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio. I've been teaching since the 2015-16 school year, and I am excited to head to another great year. The courses I will be offering this year are Algebra I, Algebra II, and AP Calculus AB.

I graduated from Bitburg High School in Germany where I grew up on the Air Force base. Upon graduation, I attended Trinity University and received a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Cognitive Science (several students have asked to see my transcripts). I do have a passion for computer science and keep up with research in artificial intelligence in my spare time.

I have a passion for mathematics because of my passion for logic in computing. Maths is a time to follow a set of rules to find a correct answer. Beyond that, though, there is a lot of creativity when it comes to mathematics. Applying what we learn in class to real-world situations will allow the students to understand mathematics in their lives.

I believe the exploration of mathematics comes with practice. In class, we will practice algorithms in order to explore some of the more astounding topics STEAM has to offer. As a class, we will explore deeper to solve problems that are relevant to our lives, community, and nation.

I look forward to working with you. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me using my contact form

Very Respectfully,

Mr. Hernandez
